“Step One: You Change; Step Two: World Change” -
Real Talk About How Great Things Happen
Presented By Caleb Anderson, Young Life
Synopsis: This seminar can serve as a manual of sorts - a manual of world-change, if you will. Not that the world is in need of another book. Not that anyone is necessarily waiting on the edge of their seat to hear another human’s thoughts on life, but more than just musings, observations, and self-help material, this is a guide I created on my own journey of life-change.
I can’t take credit for this. Maybe just some time and energy I’ve put into the process. But the journey itself was unwelcomed. It forced itself on me before I was ready… before I knew I needed it. I was trying to change others while Someone else was changing me.
I, like many young and eager adults, believed that I could change the world. After all, I had been around people of significant influence. My family was liked and respected. Teammates voted me captain of sports teams. People seemed to listen when I spoke and I was told I was articulate and insightful. Besides, isn’t the world our oyster? Can’t I do anything I put my mind to? Isn’t this the global-digital era, where anyone can be anywhere and anything? I was a good religious kid, after all; motivated to do good and perhaps make a name for myself as a result. You can’t learn from someone you’ve never heard of, right?
Imagine my shock when I found out – the hard way – that the road to the top is not upward and that big might actually mean small. Perhaps you can relate or empathize with the journey of glorious disaster. If not, let me spare you. I can’t spare you the disaster. But I can spare you the delusion that it’s avoidable.
The world doesn’t need what you think it needs. People don’t need another arrogant idealist telling them how they’re missing the mark. What humanity needs is humility. Genuine humility, plus divine creativity, will be revolutionary. And it starts with you.
Bio: A social and spiritual entrepreneur, Caleb has a background in business, studying at USC, followed by four years as a pastor at Saddleback Church in Southern California, where he left to start a unique non-profit. That didn’t work initially, so Caleb began consulting – for the YMCA – and continued writing and speaking. Today Caleb’s home base is Tempe, AZ where he is the director of Young Life’s college ministry at Arizona State University. He continues to teach, write, and help a younger generation reach their potential. Caleb was recently married to his beautiful wife, Hilary.
